In the previous post we discussed the main ingredients in glass. Remember glass contains sand or silica, sodium carbonate, limestone, magnesium carbonate and extra fillers. The other main thing needed to make glass is HEAT. In fact, the key to making glass is having an oven that can heat up to a scorching temperature of 1700 degrees Celsius. Yes, just as glass begins from grains of sand, it requires intense heating to transition to glass.
The ingredients of the glass are all combined together in special containers which are heated. This results in a molten liquid. The liquid is not glass yet, but it can be poured, shaped or even blown by talented artisans to create all types of glass containers, sculptures and other glass items.
Today, many glass items are made in factories but the basic ingredients and principles are the same.
